Root Canal Therapy (Endodontics)

A root canal is done when the pulp, or nerve, is damaged. In this case, a deep cavity has invaded the pulp.
The decay is removed, and then the pulp tissue is cleaned out.

This is comfortably done with a local anesthetic.

The canal space(s) are sealed with a rubbery material to prevent infection.
The tooth is restored, often with a post and crown. The crown here is depicted in gold, but is usually constructed with a porcelain exterior for esthetics
